Q&A:
What’s Large group?
Large Group is a chance to hang out with friends, and do something fun. At each meeting, we will do some kind of fun activity (glow in the dark ultimate Frisbee, penguin kickball, dodgeball, basketball etc.) Then we will come together to eat some grub, hear a brief talk relating to Catholicism, and finish the night with some prayer. This is great if your not ready to go deep sea diving, but want to come together for some community and learn a bit more about your faith.
* Let me know if there is a particular activity you are really hoping to do!
When is Large group?
Twice a month: 1st and 3rd Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
- 1st Sunday = activity, food, talk given by Jennessa, 10 minute night prayer
- 3rd Sunday = activity, food, talk given by guest (speaker series) 10 minute night prayer.
What is the Speaker Series?
To go along with the water theme, I am calling this series: “Go Against the Current.” The secular culture tells us one way to live our lives, but what’s Jesus’ plan for us? Topics that will be explored may include things like: tattoos, music, cohabitation, contraception, conversion stories, just war etc. (I will keep you posted on the speaker and topic of each month). If you are particularly hopeful for something send an email my way: jdurney@ourladyofhope.net
Who can come to Large group?
Any Teen in grades 9 through 12. Please feel free to bring friends (they don’t have to be Catholic).
What’s small group?
Small Group is a chance to dive deep into the Faith and talk about topics that will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus.
When is small group?
Every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
What will take place at small group?
1st Wednesday = Girl/Guy talk
Over the years, it has become more and more clear to me that guys and gals are not the same (we’re compatible but we aren’t the same). We deal with different things and in different ways. Well I take that back… both guys and gals have one thing in common we are all called to be virtuous Catholics. With this in mind, ladies and gents will split up to have time tailored to them as male/female to work towards the common goal of: “living a life worthy of the calling you have received” Ephesians 4:1.
Guys will meet in the gym. This group will provide a place and community where guys can connect with each other and God. Each night will be kicked off by a manly activity such as learning how to play stickball, wilderness skills, poker, paper airplane competitions etc. After burning off some energy, guys will take some time to talk about issues that affect men as well as the reality God is calling them to, which is a life of virtue. Topics include: a warrior and his tools, true strength, girls, dating and more. Fr. Belli will be heading up this group.
Gals will meet with Jennessa: I am going for a “sleepover” feel so of course there will be lots of goodies like brownies and ice cream. This group will provide a place where you can feel like you can relax and be yourself with other Catholic ladies. There will be time to talk casually but most especially we will be meeting to talk about what it means to be an authentic Christian woman. Topics include: love, dating, your worth, guys, and mucho mas.
All other Wednesdays = In the Know
These Wednesdays will be dedicated to Apologetics… DON’T STOP READING… Apologetics is just a fancy name for defending the Catholic faith. Sometimes we take for granted or we go through the motions of our faith, and never stop to really think about the “why” behind what we are doing. As time goes on, people might accuse us of worshipping Mary, or tell us that we shouldn’t have to confess our sins to a priest. It might be easy to slip into doubt. Therefore, I want to supply you with some ammunition for the coming years that is based on Scripture and Tradition. There will be a chance just to hang out and snack, but know that we will be diving deep into this topic. This will be great for those who are looking to grow deeply in their relationship with Jesus.
